It’s been long time I didn’t post anything in here (don’t have enough time to post something -__-, and blame my modem that can’t work well when I use it in my house , always get bad signal)

Alright, before I start, now I finally get place to do my internship program ^o^ (yeyyyyy) and I can have a time to write something for my blog.

Last year, I accidentally joined Debate competition because my English Lecturer said if My English is good ( but actually I am not fluent in English. I can speak and listen, but not really good at that time, especially my grammar.

That was not my first time join English debate competition, because I have joined this kind of competition when I was in Senior High School. But…………..there was something that made it different. It was the system. National University Debate Championship used British Parliamentary system, so that, there are 4 teams that will debate one motion in one room. It was so different with the system that I ever joined before ( it is 1 team (3 persons) vs 1 team (3 persons).

Before join the National level, the representative team that came from many Universities, Institute, Polythecnic, etc must pass the regional level.

Because our Campus was located in Jakarta, we join the qualification in KOPERTIS Wilayah 3 (Jakarta, Bogor, Banten, Depok). There were more than 40 Universities that Join the competition. The Kopertis 3 can send 11 teams from its region to the National. And luckily, my team was the 11^th team :D so lucky right.

NUDC was separated into 4 rounds for the Novice category:

1^st round (that consist of 7 rounds) is “ Preliminary Round”. You will debate 7 different motions with different enemies. After finish one round, you will get VP (Victory point) based on your rank that you get (1^st rank=3 vp. 2^nd rank= 2 vp. 3^rd rank= 1 vp. 4^th rank= no vp/0). You must collect it by take the highest rank in every round. This point will be accumulated, and also your team point will be accumulated that will make you qualified to pass the Next round or not.

2^nd round is “Quarter Final Round”.

3^rd round is “Semifinal Round”.

4^th round is “Final Round”.

For the Open Category, it consisted of 5 rounds:

1^st round is “Preliminary” ( same as novice category)

2^nd round is “Octofinals Round”

3^rd is “Quarter Finals Round”

4^th is “Semifinal Round”

5^th is “ Final Round”

The National Level was held at Universitas Mercu Buana (Meruya), actually I was disappoint , because I hope NUDC 2016 would be held at other city outside Jakarta, so that I can travel to other city, but……… :’) yeah, this big event was held in Meruya. That’s okay.

NUDC 2016 was held from 31 July 2016 untill 5 August 2016.

Our campus just have short time to practice because our schedule is not flexible, we must do the Semester Exam, and also face the Lebaran. So that, we face many difficulties on the competition -__-.

Day 1

On the Day 1, we went to the Mercu Buana from Campus by Grab Car.

When we arrived at there, the committee greeted us and told us to keep our luggage at one of their classroom. We get a coupon to take it back to hotel after the opening ceremony. After that, we go upstairs to the hall and registered.

We got a goodie bag with one lunch coupon for one person.

Here, what I got (one t shirt of NUDC, 1 batik shirt for last day, Guide Book for NUDC, Ballpoint, note book, and also our name tag that we must to use whole event.

The schedule for the day 1 is only Opening Ceremony, Workshop for adjusicator, and also demonstration of “Veteran” Debater. Their Debate was really great, they had good logic, so persuasive and also can make the audience understand about what their purpose of that motion.

After the agenda of Day 1 was finish, we went to hotel by bus. Before it, we also got our dinner (nasi kotak) and also took back our luggage.

Unfortunately, I was the only woman in my team, and because of that I must to share my room with other representative. But…………………She didn’t come to my room and it means I must to sleep alone for next days until the event finish :’). I hate her attitude so much , because I already gave my number to her and I also get her number so that we can contact each other, but until 10 o’clock , she didn’t come to my room and no reply my message. Because I want to lock my room and go to sleep. I was afraid if I already locked the room, she came.

After didn’t get any response from her, I went out from my room and went around the hotel. Accidentaly I met some nice persons.

We talked and share our story each other until I felt sleepy.

I went back to my room and I tried to sleep, but not success :’)

Day 2

On the day 2, we went back to Mercu Buana by bus, but before it, we can take breakfast that already perepared by the Hotel. I eat a lot XD.

The competition started at 2^nd day. We must to debate for 3 rounds. Actually it was hard time for us, because we met many strong competitors. I will list the motion that appeared in this competition.

On the day 2, our team got more problem. We can’t connect our mind each other, and it make we can’t cooperate well like in Kopertis 3 qualification. I also felt so sleepy because I couldn’t sleep well.

Day 2 agenda was finish and our VP was only 3 ( the last round on this day, we got 4^th rank ).

I really disappointed with my self ad my teammate, but we promise if we will do better for tomorrow.

Day 3

Day 3 agenda was same as day 2, but the last round result (round 6) was not announced by the adjudicators. (it made me so curious) because I know our performance for today was better than before.

Day 4

I woke up so early, and because of that I went to the breakfast room around 5 am, and it was really quiet. May be I was the 1^st person at breakfast room, (haha).

I took some food and try the other dish.

My teammate came with our lecturer. We eat together, but they left earlier because they must to change their cloth (they ate with their sleeping cloth).

When I continued eat some “snack” ( yeah I took some cereal and cakes after eat some potato and egg, hehe), some of the representatives from Yogya came, and we sat together. We shared our experience, and I realized if I was novice among the expert XD AAHHAHAHA

After breakfast, we went to Mercu Buana to do the last round of the preliminary round. We fought and gave the best for this round.

And , finally The Committee announce the result. Actually, this competition was divided into 2 categories. Main Category ( for debater who has experience in Big competition of debate) and Novice category (for debater who has no experience in big competition like this ). My team was in Novice Category.

I was really curious about the result, because I think my team will get good score in last 2 preliminary rounds.

AND……….THE RESULT IS…………

We failed to compete to the next round :’) so sad……………… because we had a target if we must to break to the quarter finals of Novice category, but we failed. It’s okay, because we think the teams that brought to the next round from both category were deserve to get it.

After the announcement, the next round was start for Quarter final novice category and Octofinal Main category. I decided to sleep for a while when my friend went out to watch the octofinals of main category.

After that round, my friends came back and the adjudicators announced the result. We continued to the next round, there were “Quarter finals” for main category and “Semi finals” for Novice category. I decided to watch it this time. Because the rooms with UI,UGM,BINUS,UNPAR and IPB room was really crowded, I decided to watch Brawijaya performance with my friends from Yogya. Brawijaya’s team was really good, they could bring debate without show emotional gesture, really calm but really persuasive.

After the announcement of the last round for today, we went back to the hotel.

On this day, I slept at other team’s room, because they invited me . They were from UHAMKA. I got spooky experience at their room :’D. Before it happened to us, actually Agung dkk, already told me if their room was spooky, but I thought so positive, and yeah I accepted their invitation to sleep together

Day 5.

On this day, some of the teams didn’t attend this event, because they went around Jakarta ( some of them said if that time was their first time in Jakarta). In this day, we must to wear Batik shirt that we got from the goodie bag. Luckily the size was suit me well.

We went to the Mercu Buana by bus together again (I was so sad because this was the last day we went together like this :’) ) . Before we walked to the Hall, we took photo together with the committee and also were recorded by the drone XD

The first round for today was start. I watched it with my friends together. But actually, we spend the last day with took many selfie, wefie, and also recorded the debate (and also played pokemon GO).

The Final Round of the Novice Category was start. Even they were novice they were really good when debating, but lack of diction (in my opinion).

Let’s skip to the Final Round of Main Category. Because the gap between the previous round to the last round took long time ( I don’t know what I want to do , haha XD). The Final Round of the Main Category was held in other hall. It was looked like a mini theater I think, hehe. We were waiting for few times for the final round, therefore we took many selfie and wefie again, haha. We also watched the short movie and ate some snacks.

Finally………….

The Final Round of the main category was started.

It was battle between : UI, UGM, Brawijaya, Binus.

As I expected, the debate became so powerfull. The audiences also enjoyed with their performance (we reacted with their analogy, diction, and also some sarcasm).

After an amazing debate. We were waiting again for the closing ceremony and the result of the competition. We also enjoyed our dinner.

After the dinner, we went back to the hall to attend the closing ceremony. We were really curious and excited who will be the winner. We also share our opinion about who will win and who will become best speaker.

And………. Finally, the announcement of the best speakers for both category had been announced.

Next…..the announcement of the winner for both category, actually I forgot who was the winner of the novice category. But for the main category, we Have :

1^st rank = UI

2^ND rank= UGM

3^RD rank = BINUS

4^TH rank= Brawijaya

Congrats guys, you were deserve for it.

After the closing ceremony , we went back to the hotel. This night, I slept again in my friends from UHAMKA room, together with other debaters from UNTIRTA (7 persons in one room) XD . We share 1 bed for 5 girls, and 2 sofas for 2 boys, haha. It was really fun, and after we filled that room with many people, that room became not spooky anymore.

Day 6 : Last day

Actually the last day was the day to check out from hotel. I feel so sad, andhopefully I could join this competition next year.
